Purpose
The California Public Utilities Code establishes
airport land use commissions in each county to provide for the
orderly development of air transportation and ensure compatible
land uses around airports. The plan adopted by the Sonoma County
Airport Land Use Commission in January 2001 sets forth referral
boundaries, uses which are prohibited or discouraged, projected
noise levels, noise standards, and limits on building height,
population density, residential density, and lot coverage.
The Commission consists of seven members: two appointed by the
County, two appointed by the nine incorporated cities, two members
appointed by the six airport managers, and one general public
member appointed by the other members of the Commission.
