| SUBJECT: | New Tennis Courts at Maxwell Farms
Regional Park |
The public is invited to
join the Sonoma County Regional Parks Department at the dedication of the new
tennis courts at Maxwell Farms Regional Park in
Sonoma. The dedication will take place at the tennis courts on Monday, May
19
from 6:15 to 7:15pm. Guest speakers will include Supervisor Valerie Brown,
Parks Director Jim Angelo, Mayor Dick Ashford, Parks Commissioner John Mills
and
Maryily
Mertens from the Sonoma Valley Tennis Association.
The construction of
the tennis courts was a joint project between Sonoma County Regional Parks (SCRP),
the City of Sonoma, and the Sonoma Valley Tennis Association (SVTA), a local non-profit
dedicated to the promotion of tennis in the Sonoma Valley area. SVTA has been
seeking a facility to hold team tennis matches and tournaments for several years.
In 2001, they and the County agreed to construct two additional courts at Maxwell
Farms Park. SVTA agreed to help fund the project and SCRP agreed to operate and
maintain the tennis courts. The City of Sonoma paid for the construction of the
fifth tennis court. In December 2002, construction of the new tennis courts, as
well as resurfacing of the existing courts, was completed. The funding sources
were:
