The Sonoma County Regional Parks
Department announces the opening of the Colgan
Creek Trail in southwest Santa Rosa. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place
Thursday, April 17, 2003.
This 1.2-mile paved section of trail is the latest
addition to the 10 miles of regional multi-use trails developed by the Regional
Parks Department over the past decade. The trail follows the Sonoma County
Water
Agency channel along Colgan Creek between Bellevue Avenue and Stony Point to
Todd Road. It offers commuters, students and recreationists an alternative
to busy
streets. This trail will eventually connect to another section of trail proposed
by the City of Santa Rosa.
Speakers at the ribbon-cutting included Supervisor
Mike Reilly, Parks Commissioner and Bellevue Elementary School Principal
Yancey Forest-Knowles, Renee Webber from the Sonoma County Water Agency, Santa
Rosa
Councilwoman
Janet Condron, and Lou Salz from the Sonoma County Bicycle and Pedestrian
Advisory Committee.
In partnership with the Sonoma County Water Agency, the City
of Santa Rosa, and the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, this project was
made possible through funding from Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds
from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
