This project was approved by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on May 1, 2007. Construction was completed in May 2008. A dedication has been planned for July 24.

Crane Creek Regional Park Frisbee Golf Course

The Regional Parks Department and the United Flyers are working on a license agreement for the operation and maintenance of the new Frisbee Golf Course. Once this agreement has been executed, installation of the new course will proceed and is anticipated by Spring 2009.

Ernie Smith Community Park Expansion Project

Construction was completed on April 4, 2007. Improvements included new trails and renovated trails, retaining walls, a fenced dog park, renovated lawn areas, new landscaping, irrigation, a pedestrian bridge, picnic tables and drinking fountains. Additional improvements will be constructed in later phases when more public funding becomes available.

The funding sources for this project are State Parks Proposition 12 and Park Mitigation Fees.

Guerneville River Park

This new park opened in Spring 2007. The group picnic site is complete and available for reservation. The outdoor stage area is slated for construction in Spring 2009. Family picnic sites, pathways, a restroom and parking are also available to serve the public.

Kenwood Plaza Park

The Sonoma County Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission will be holding its February meeting at Kenwood Plaza Park at 9045 Sonoma Highway, on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 5:30 pm.

The main topic of this Commission meeting will be the fate of the signature Valley Oak that has long been a central focal point of the park. Staff will be summarizing public comments and making final recommendations to the Commission regarding public safety and preservation of this natural resource.

ADA Playground at Maxwell Farms Regional Park

This Foundation-sponsored project was constructed in November 2007. The Foundation has donated an additional $15,000 to install upper body play equipment. Regional Parks will complete this work in Fall 2008.

Santa Rosa Creek Trail Reach F - Willowside Road to Fulton Road

In June 2007, in partnership with the Sonoma County Water Agency, Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, and Regional Parks Department, the first phase of the trail was completed by installing three multi-use bridges along Reach F.  The next phase of this project is to design and pave the trail.

The 2.14-mile paved trail will be constructed on the northern gravel service road between Willowside Road and Fulton Road. The paved surface will be accessible to wheel chairs and bicycles. The paved trail is funded by $550,000 from the Transportation for Livable Communities (TLC), $50,000 from park mitigation fees, and $100,000 from TDA (Transportation Development Act) Article 3. The tentative construction start date is Summer 2008.

Public Workshop regarding the Tolay Lake Regional Park Interim Plan

Purpose of the Interim Plan: To provide an interim level of limited public use beyond the guided tours and manage the property while preserving the existing property resources until the Master Plan for permanent use is adopted and implemented.

Workshop Focus: On December 17th & 18th, 2007, Regional Parks presented the draft Initial Study for the Interim Public Access & Management Plan (Interim Plan) at two well-attended public meetings.  Based on public comments received during these meetings, Regional Parks agreed to consider implementing a Day-Use Permit Program to provide equitable access to Tolay Lake Regional Park during the Interim Plan phase including hikers, bikers, equestrians, and picnickers.

Regional Parks staff will introduce the Day-Use Permit Program, which is still being developed, and then receive initial feedback from the public in order to finalize the Program. 

This Workshop will be held with the assistance of the Park & Recreation Advisory Commission.

The Tolay Lake Regional Park Interim Plan Draft Initial Study was presented at the Sonoma County Environmental Review Committee (ERC) on December 18, 2007 and incorporates comments made by the ERC at this meeting.

Watson School Restoration

Regional Parks has hired Garavaglia Architecture, Inc. to prepare an historic restoration plan for this unique one-room schoolhouse. This document will be use to guide the restoration of the building and to seek grants for the restoration work, and an endowment for the long term care of this historic resource. West County Regional Trail - Ross Station Road Trailhead

The Regional Parks Department is proposing to improve the trailhead at Ross Station Road, which is located on County property. The trailhead improvements will include park amenities and a paved parking lot consisting of 8 parking stalls including 1 disabled parking stall.

The project is funded by $88,000 from the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District and $12,000 from County park mitigation fees. The scheduled construction date is Spring 2009.
