How You Can Help

Donate time

  1. Become a foster parent (or respite foster parent) Foster parents provide short and long term safe and loving care for abused children
  2. Volunteer at Valley of the Moon Children’s Home Volunteers work with children in special programs such as gardening, art, and living skills
  3. Offer an apprenticeship to a current or former foster youth Older foster children benefit from job-preparation opportunities
  4. Lead a JobLink workshop Local volunteers lead workshops for job seekers
  5. Answer the phones for 211 The 211 phone bank refers callers to assistance for a wide variety of problems
  6. Lead a fall prevention class This class teaches seniors strategies to prevent a fall
  7. Drive seniors and veterans to appointments Several non-profit organizations coordinate volunteer drivers
  8. Report suspected abuse of a child, elder, or person with a disability Help protect vulnerable children (800-870-7064) and adults (800-667-0404)

  1. Valley of the Moon Children’s Foundation The Foundation provides extensive financial and volunteer support to the Home
  2. Blue Bags for foster children This $125 filled bag includes everything a child needs for their first few days in foster care
  3. Scholarship Fund The Valley of the Moon Foundation supports former youth with college scholarships
  4. Admission tickets (De Young Museum, San Francisco Zoo, Discovery Kingdom, etc.) Assist Valley of the Moon Children’s Home in taking residents on fieldtrips 5. Senior Art Show This annual show showcases the artwork of local seniors
  5. Youth Symposium This annual event provides career exploration for high school youth.
  6. Jerry Casson Fund This fund provides small cash grants to clients with an immediate and urgent need

Donate goods

  1. New or gently used suitcases for foster children Suitcases help foster children manage their own belongings if they need to move between placements
  2. Children’s and Teen magazines Provide current reading material and entertainment for residents of the Children’s Home
  3. Items for Points Closet (toys, art supplies, games, small electronics, hair products, make-up, music, etc.) Children’s Home residents are rewarded for positive behavior through the Points Closet
  4. New or gently used household furniture and goods for foster youth transitioning to independent living Help establish a home for transitioning foster youth
  5. Smoke detectors, food and gift cards for the Kinship Family Center Relative caregivers provide homes, food, clothing and loving care to a relative’s children
  6. New durable medical equipment for seniors and people with disabilities Medical equipment to keep seniors and people with disabilities safe and healthy in their home
  7. Gift cards for Longs, CVS, Target, grocery stores, toy stores, department stores, etc. Medications and other personal care needs for seniors, people with disability Personal care and toys for foster children.
  8. New blankets, sweaters, socks, pajamas, and hand-held shower hoses for seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans These items are difficult to afford for individuals on low and fixed incomes
  9. Food for the Redwood Empire Food Bank The Redwood Empire Food Bank coordinates food distribution throughout the county
  10. Food and interview clothing for former foster youth V.O.I.C.E.S a youth led program supports youth in becoming independent and successful
  11. Transit cards Many people need transportation assistance to look for work and receive medical care
  12. Baby clothes, strollers, swings and car seats The California Parenting Institute accepts donations
  13. Interview clothing for job seekers The Goodwill Clothes Closet serves our clients
